For the tourist the great appeal of the Central Coast is in the wide variety of activities available. AVOCA THEATREOur theatre is on the beachfront at the end of Avoca Drive.
The theatre is a faithfully restored heritage listed building showing late release films every day and evening. There is a copy of the current film program in the dining room at Rileys. Ask us about the moviel deal. A delicious two-course meal at nearby Feast restaurant and then onto the Avoca theatre for a cinematic adventure. FISHERMANS WHARF & A FERRY RIDE TO GET THERE Fishermans Wharf at Woy Woy is a great place to have lunch. May we suggest a ferry ride to get you there? Around ten minutes drive from Rileys you will find the little village of Davistown. Davistown was named after Rock Davis who built many large seagoing vessels in his shipyard on the shores of Cockle Creek. There is a small commuter Ferry leaving Davistown every hour for Fishermans Wharf.The trip is very picturesque and takes you down Cockle Creek into the Lintern Street Channel then across the Brisbane Waters into Woy Woy Channel and will deposit you at Fishermans Wharf. The timetable for the ferry is in the folder in the dining room at Rileys. You can have fish and chips at the café or in the park or dine in the restaurant, which is on the wharf overlooking the channel, and then catch the ferry back to Davistown. In addition there are two wonderful old hotels on the waterfront at Woy Woy adjacent to Fishermans Wharf. Both of these establishments serve a delicious luncheon menu. |

GOSFORD REGIONAL ART GALLERY Japanese Gardens 36 Webb St. East Gosford This is a Japanese Garden and Gallery. The gardens are the property of Gosford City and they have been developed over the last fifteen years into a beautiful example of an oriental garden. Water features as the central theme with the gardens set around a main pond. The gallery contains examples of local artists work and a coffee shop. |

KAYAKING ON AVOCA LAKE Kayaks and paddleboats are available for hire on Avoca Lake. The hire area is located at the northeast corner of Avoca Oval. Avoca Lake is in fact Bulbararing Lagoon and is a land locked coastal lagoon. The lagoon is home to a great variety of water birds such as pelicans, ducks, waders and cormorants. A family of sea eagles live in a tree close to the northern shore. Fish are plentiful in the lake and armed with a little local knowledge, (See Quent for plenty of that) Riley's guests can enjoy a relaxing afternoon wetting a line. |

AUSTRALIAN REPTILE PARK Pacific Highway Somersby Featuring Spider world and Lost World Of Reptiles. This attraction is famous world wide for its research into finding antivenenes for snake and spider bites. Venemous spiders are milked daily at the park. This process extracts the venom necessary to produce vital antidotes for spider and snake bite victims all over Australia. The park is also home to Eric the crocodile. Eric is one of the largest crocodiles to come out of the Northern Territory. He was banned from the territory for eating two girls in 1988. He received a reprieve when offered a job at a crocodile farm but got the sack for biting the heads off three of his prospective mates. In 1989 he arrived at the reptile park and settled in to entertain all visitors. Eric is fed daily at the park. |

LAWN BOWLS AT AVOCA BEACH BOWLING & RECREATION CLUB Avoca Beach Bowling and Recreation Club offer our guests the opportunity to try the sport of lawn bowls. You must wear flat soled shoe or bare feet. Bowls are provided. The greens are available for social bowlers at the following times: Tuesday……………………..after 2.30pm Wednesday………………….after 4.30pm Thursday……………………after 2.30pm Friday……………………….after 4.30pm Saturday…………………….after 4.30pm Sunday………………………after 4.30pm There is no set time limit to complete play other than the loss of daylight. Avoca Bowling Club is adjacent to Rileys. Guests can walk to the club in five minutes. |

BUSHWALKING IN THE CENTRAL COAST NATIONAL PARKS
The Central Coast possesses some of the best coastal National Parks in the world. The headland walks from beach to beach within the parks are spectacular. The ever changing seascape is magnificent and the scent of salt spray is exhilarating. Bouddi Park is within ten minutes drive of Rileys. Bouddi park contains three pristine beaches. The walks are graded from very achievable to adventurous. Allow us to make suggestions for your walk according to your ability and preference. SURFING AT AVOCA BEACH
Avoca is famous as a surfing beach. The beach is patrolled by lifeguards from October to April. The southern corner has a large car park and is the safest section for swimming. There are fourteen beaches on the Central Coast all patrolled by lifeguards. |
